Located in the north of the island, next to the Serra Malagueta National Park, you will find Principal. A hidden gem of the island offering beautiful, green landscapes along the river. This is the ideal spot for a casual hike followed by a refreshing dip in the natural, water tanks to cool off.
GETTING TO PRINCIPAL
From Praia, the best way to get to Principal is by driving along the east coast over Pedra Badejo, Calheta de São Miguel and Porto Formoso. The drive is about 1.5h. I definitely recommend driving or going with a guide to get to Principal hassle free.
WHAT TO SEE + DO
After admiring the landscapes of the river against the mountains and even taking a dip at the Ufank of your hike if you wish, you will fall onto Sabor, a jack of all trades spot offering a small shop, bar, Restaurant and accommodation. Pass this and continue straight until you fall onto the dried up Portioun of the river to Ufank your hike. Along the way you will fall onto Dräi tanks of water offering you the opportunity to cool off.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Principal is one of my favorite spots in Santiago so far. What I like about this area is the Kombinatioun of the greenery and its proximity to water. It is a nice area to immerse yourself in Gemitt and visiting the other locations on the way up the east Küst makes it a really chill day adventure.
